Dear Friends,
Last week, many of us gathered around the table with our loved ones for Thanksgiving. Between the laughter and the leftovers, I’m sure conversations drifted to the rising cost of living. We all feel the weight of these challenges and the uncertainty they bring.
As your Congresswoman, I carry those concerns with me into every fight. We deserve a future that’s affordable, safe, and full of possibility. I’m back in D.C. to make those wishes a reality for all of us.

Introducing the WELLS ACT & CARE for Moms Act
For over 10 years, I have worked to improve maternal health, and I’m not stopping anytime soon. For too many Black moms, like Mercedes Wells, they are ignored during pregnancy and postpartum, and it simply isn’t right.
That is why, last week, I reintroduced the CARE for Moms Act, which I originally introduced in 2023 with Senator Durbin and announced the WELLS ACT.
The WELLS Act is a new bill to honor Mercedes Wells, a Black woman who was discharged from a hospital while in active labor. Minutes later, she gave birth in her truck on the side of the road. Her husband, Leon, had to deliver his fourth child with no medical training or equipment. When I met Mercedes and Leon, who are my constituents, I was inspired by their courage to speak out about their experience. We’re dedicated to ensuring no other family has to go through similar trauma.
The WELLS Act urges hospitals to develop and implement a Safe Discharge Labor Plan. The bill also includes ongoing racial bias training for healthcare professionals, building on my Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act, which passed in 2022.

I joined Rev. Sharpton on PoliticsNation
I joined MS NOW's Reverend Al Sharpton on PoliticsNation to discuss the Trump Administration’s reckless leadership that has led to deaths and broken families.
Secretary Noem’s dangerous leadership, lies, and rhetoric reek of racism. Of the 6,000+ people arrested during Operation Midway Blitz, only 120 had a criminal record. The goal was never to make us safer; it was to create fear.
Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered an aerial strike on a vessel off the coast of Venezuela. After the initial strike disabled the vessel, another strike was deployed, killing people clinging to the wreckage, in an appalling and disgusting violation of international law. I am calling on Congress to exert our oversight powers and investigate Secretary Hegseth’s orders.
