General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Happy Friday, New Jersey,

This week, Senator Kim was in New Jersey and DC, fighting corruption in all its forms because you deserve a government that works for you, not against you.

Working for New Jersey:

BUILDING AN ANTI-CORRUPTION MOVEMENT FROM NEW JERSEY TO D.C.:

Testifying in Trenton

We live in a time of deep distrust in politics.  A New Jersey survey found that 84% of New Jersey voters agreed that state politicians are at least “a little” corrupt. That’s a staggering and unacceptable number – all public servants should work to reverse it.

It's why Senator Kim testified in front of a NJ State Senate hearing, alongside NJ Attorney General Platkin and Comptroller Walsh, against a bill that would weaken our fight against corruption. From your local and state government to Washington DC, you deserve a government you can trust, and leaders that will hold corrupt people accountable.

Fighting Corruption in All Its Forms

Corruption is costing you – and the fight is far from over.

We have to take down corrupt systems that are making it harder for you to live your life, whether from Democrats or Republicans, or in national or state governments. Senator Kim will continue to stand up to anyone and fight for you to make that happen.

Check out the Senator’s op-ed on what's truly at stake in this fight.

STANDING UP AGAINST THE UNLAWFUL APPOINTMENT OF ALINA HABBA:

Earlier this week, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals put out a unanimous ruling that affirmed Alina Habba has been unlawfully serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. This is a win for New Jerseyans and for the rule of law.

On the decision from the Court, Senator Kim put out a joint statement with Senator Booker and said,

“Today’s unanimous ruling by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals affirms that Alina Habba has been unlawfully serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. This decision vindicates concerns we have long raised about the extraordinary and unlawful steps taken by the Trump Administration to keep Habba in office without Senate confirmation.

The Court’s ruling underscores a simple but fundamental principle: U.S. Attorneys must be independent and installed consistent with the rule of law, not because of their political loyalty or through political maneuvering. The Trump Administration’s attempt to bypass clear legal requirements to install a loyalist undermined the legitimacy of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey and cast a shadow over the cases she oversaw.

To restore public trust in our state’s chief federal prosecutor, we urge the administration to follow the long-established process and work with us to identify a qualified U.S. Attorney for New Jersey — one who will enforce the law fairly, impartially, and with full respect for due process. They must understand that they are bound to the legal requirements for nominating U.S. Attorneys and we will not allow Donald Trump to jeopardize the safety of New Jerseyans.”

CELEBRATING SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY:

Last weekend, we celebrated Small Business Saturday and had the opportunity to recognize local entrepreneurs and small business owners across the Garden State who work hard every day to strengthen our communities and fuel our economy.

Thank you to all who supported small businesses last weekend, and we hope you’ll continue to do so this holiday season!

MEETING WITH STUDENTS FROM THE JAG PROGRAM:

This week, Senator Kim met with student leaders in the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program to learn about why supporting these types of programs in schools is so important. The students shared their stories, the challenges they face, and how JAG has united their community.

Now more than ever, it’s important to invest in education for the next generation of leaders. That’s why the Senator is fighting for programs like JAG to continue existing and uplifting the voices of students across the country.

Working for you at the Capitol:

CONNECTING THE DOTS OF TRUMP’S LAWLESSNESS:

From manufacturing enemies to attempting to turn the military into his own personal army, Trump is purposefully painting a fuzzy picture through chaos and using the power of the government for himself, not us.

Each of these moments is a dot, and when they’re all connected, we see his plan to manipulate, abuse, and exploit to build a system that empowers him and targets you.

We must connect the dots.

CALLING OUT SECRETARY HEGSETH’S WAR CRIME MEME:

Pete Hegseth is dropping bombs and making light of war crimes with memes of Franklin the Turtle.

An accountable administration would come explain themselves to Congress and the American people.

Trump and Hegseth’s abuse of power must be checked.
