Earlier this week, I spoke at the 6th Energy Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum about one of the biggest turning points of our time. The rise of AI is reshaping how America powers its grid, strengthens national security, and keeps our economy competitive.
I reminded attendees that Texas is the energy capital of the world. A strong America starts with strong energy, and a reliable energy sector keeps our nation free, prosperous and safe.
President Trump has made it clear. If America wants to lead this century, we must lead in energy and lead in AI. China and Russia are moving fast, and if we slow down, we will feel it in our economy, on our grid and in our national security.
As Chairman of the House Science, Space, and Technology’s Subcommittee on Energy, I see firsthand how AI is driving breakthroughs in quantum research, biotechnology, advanced nuclear and grid resilience. This is all part of President Trump’s Genesis Mission, focused on unleashing AI across America’s scientific and energy innovation.
There is no getting around it. AI runs on real electricity. Data-center demand is expected to double, and our population is projected to grow by nearly twenty million people in the next decade. That means more families, more homes, more businesses and far more pressure on our grid.
You cannot power a nation of more than 370 million people with intermittent energy alone. And you cannot run mission-critical computing on an unstable grid. Texas understands this. When reliability is on the line, we depend on dispatchable power. Natural gas. Nuclear. Coal. Hydro.
Nuclear energy remains one of our greatest opportunities. Paired with AI, we can deploy safer reactors, faster licensing and next-generation designs that strengthen American energy dominance.
President Trump also lifted the freeze on LNG exports, opening new doors for communities like Port Arthur. He is clearing out the bureaucracy that has stalled energy projects for years and is fully committed to giving our researchers and National Labs the tools they need to stay ahead in AI.
Under his leadership, we have a path built on abundance, strength and American leadership. Our energy workers are ready. Our scientists are ready. And the American people are ready to stop apologizing for success.
Congress must continue modernizing the grid, securing supply chains and keeping AI innovation here at home. We cannot continue to regulate ourselves into second place or let China and Russia set the pace.
Energy dominance is national security. The world will not end because America produces more energy. Texas is ready to power the future. Our labs are ready to shape it. And America is ready to win it.
