December 5, 2025
Dear Washingtonians,
This week, I was in Ward 4 to celebrate the dedication of the newly modernized Dorothy I. Height Elementary School. The students welcomed me with wonderful performances and presentations, and we are so proud that Dorothy Height’s name is on the building, because every year, a new class of students will learn how big her life was and how big her example continues to be.
Dorothy I. Height Elementary School is also one of the many fantastic public schools that will be represented at our upcoming EdFEST. EdFEST brings together representatives from DC Public Schools and public charter schools so families can explore academic programs, support services, and extracurricular activities.
This year, EdFEST will once again take place over two weekends, starting tomorrow:
-
Grades 9-12: Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Eastern High School (1700 East Capitol Street NE)
-
PK3–Grade 8: Saturday, December 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Kraken Kourts & Skates (514 Rhode Island Avenue NE)
Whether you’re new to the school system or just exploring your options, EdFEST is the best way to meet with educators and representatives from multiple schools in one location before the My School DC Lottery opens on Monday, December 15.
Finally, as we approach winter break, please remember to mark your calendars: our DCPS students are in school through Friday, December 19 and then return to class on Monday, January 5.
Sincerely,
