Let me tell you what it feels like to come back from a Sunrise action.

I feel powerful. We stood up for our school's workers, students, and the people we love, and against Trump’s authoritarian overreach.

I feel connected. Just knowing how many of my fellow students care makes me feel so much less alone and afraid.

And, as strange as it feels to say this… I feel hopeful.

I know, there’s a lot of bad news in the world, and it can feel like we’re alone against powerful, dangerous people. 

But when I stand with my fellow students, I realize how powerful we are. El pueblo unido jamás será vencido. The people united will never be defeated.

Young people are always hearing that we’re not enough. That we’re naive. That we’ll know better when we’re older. Those voices are wrong.

It’s our future, and we deserve a say.

Instead, billionaires are trying to buy out our democracy.

They will never see the worst of the climate crisis, yet they are RAMPING UP on the fossil fuels that are burning years off of our future.

They will never see an honest day of work, yet they are cracking down on unions, slashing wages, and laying us off for AI.

And they will never know the immigrants in our schools and communities, never know how monumental the decision is to pick up your whole life to flee for another country, but they’ll gladly pay armed bullies to join ICE and harass, assault, and detain them.
