Re: Opinion: Everyone Is Talking About Affordability — and Making the Same Mistake
Discussion of outlawing stock buybacks that were once illegal would be a crucial way to address the wage issue.
Given the corruption of our lawmakers this has a very long shot of being realized but like Medicare for All it is a crucial demand to raise and tie to the problem of depressed wages.

Snow Day -- Cartoon by Lalo Alcaraz

Students attending school in the winter, mostly in the Midwest or the East Coast, get a Snow Day if a heavy snowstorm blankets their town then school will be canceled and kids can play all day. In Los Angeles, students have been not going to school out of fear of being terrorized and kidnapped by our own government. You can keep ICE Day.

Re: Amber Czech Was Murdered at Work. Tradeswomen Say It Could Have Happened to Any of Them.
(posting on xxxxxx Labor)
This is horrible; I was a shop steward for 35 years in the carpenters union local 157 NYC.
We take a harassment class and get certified among a dozen other certifications.
None of this only happens on non union jobs.
No woman is harassed on any of my jobs let alone killed?
Harassment of women is on the rise and maybe it is because a rapist is in the White House?
You can’t just look the other way, if you do you are an enabler.
There are so many things the public see and turns a blind eye to!!!Humans are tribal and we have good tribes and bad it is your choice.
You can’t stand and listen to the president call a woman reporter “Piggie’ and not call him out on the spot.
Stupid and arrogant not very good qualities in the most powerful job in the world.
My union is the only place where women get paid the same pay as the men.
Speak up not after the fact.
Manipulation is rampant.

Drug Boat -- Cartoon and Commentary by Nick Anderson

Given that Trump is now pardoning drug traffickers—and we’ve watched him hand out clemency and favors to people who bought into his latest crypto grift—it’s becoming pretty clear that these so-called traffickers have one guaranteed way to avoid being targeted: buy what Trump is selling.

Re: Palestinians Offer a Much Clearer Path to Peace
"International law also requires adhering to the International Court of Justice advisory opinion in July 2024, which ruled that the entire occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and must end. That would mean insisting that Israel withdraw from sovereign Palestinian territory, as the international force moves in for the transition to Palestinian governance. An international force, from the Palestinian perspective, is welcome under those terms – a whole chapter in the Palestinian Armistice plan is devoted to the issue."

Re: Peace in Ukraine – Peace in Europe
The Party of the European Left has condemned Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine as a violation of international law and denial of Ukraine’s sovereignty. However the EL has not aligned itself with NATO whose objective has been to end the war through military means. The ongoing war in Ukraine has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, destroyed hundreds of towns and villages, and forced millions of people to flee. The danger of escalation into a general war between Russia and NATO persists and continues to grow. The EL stresses once more that all political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire, bringing the war to a lasting and durable end, and preventing any further escalation must be taken, strengthened, and implemented immediately. Our solidarity can only be with the victims—the soldiers, civilians, refugees, and conscientious objectors on both sides—and not with the imperialist interests that fuel the conflict.

Re: To Win Radical Success, Mamdani Understands, Is To Know When and Where To Compromise
I would call it building a coalition around central shared goals. In the past it has too often been a move to the so-called center, which has been to capitulate to corporate Dems and to soft-pedal imperialist atrocities, abandoning the interest of working people in the process. If the goals remain true to achieving affordability and dignity for ordinary working people of all races and religions, then let's give it a try. There are lots of good people out there. We may have differences about exactly how to achieve our goals, but so many have ideas and experience that can help build a brand new plan, an effective plan that has never existed before.

Con Job President -- Cartoon and Commentary by Clay Jones
Are you going to believe your lying wallet or your lying president?

When Donald Trump became president in 2016, he was fortunate that he was inheriting President Barack Obama's economy. It was such a strong economy he inherited that it took him almost 4 years to fuck it up. Although throughout those four years, Trump took credit for the economy that the Black man created for him. What was really messed up is that in 2024, voters forgot who created that economy, and they restored Donald Trump back into the presidency, believing he had something to do with it. Not only did voters forget that Donald Trump had nothing to do with creating a great economy, but they also forgot that he ruined President Obama's great economy and left office in 2020 with the biggest. loss of jobs since Hoover.
In 2020, Trump ran against Biden's economy, which most people felt was not strong enough. Since Trump has returned to office, the economy has gotten worse. While he claims Biden's inflation at the time he came into office was bad, that has gotten worse, too since he's been in charge. Voters are starting to figure out that Trump has no idea how to build an economy. What might be freaking Trump out is that he might be realizing it, too.
Donald Trump knows how to rage-tweet while sitting on the toilet at 3 AM. Managing the largest economy in the world, not so much.
A recent Fox News poll found that 76% of voters view the economy negatively. Another poll by the Economist and YouGov finds that 58% disapprove of the job Trump is doing. Trump's polls on the economy are worse than Biden's were.
Even Trump must realize that since he is lifting all tariffs on commodities like coffee, meat, and other foods. I guess we are supposed to forget his belief that tariffs don't raise prices, which is hard to argue while tariffs are raising prices. TACO indeed.
But Trump is becoming frustrated with the public for not appreciating the job he sucks at. During a cabinet meeting yesterday, Trump declared that affordability “doesn’t mean anything to anybody.” I'm sure it means something to all those congressional Republicans retiring before the midterms.
Trump called the issue of affordability a “fake narrative” and “con job” created by Democrats to dupe the public.
He said, “They just say the word. It doesn’t mean anything to anybody. They just say it — affordability. I inherited the worst inflation in history. There was no affordability. Nobody could afford anything.”
Of course, Trump, along with voters, forgets that President Biden inherited Trump's economy in 2020. The difference between Trump and Biden inheriting bad economies is that Biden fixed the one he got.
Republicans left bad economies for presidents Clinton, Obama, and Biden. And those presidents fixed them. Republicans are great at trashing economies, while Democrats are great at repairing them.
Donald Trump was calling himself the “affordability president,” but he's really only affordable for the people who bribe him, like crypto moguls and Saudi royalty. Democrats are going to be running a lot of commercials with Trump's affordability/con job comment.
I just hope the economy isn't trashed beyond repair by the time a Democrat is elected to repair the damage Trump has done to it.

Watching Rainbows -- Unreleased song by John Lennon
Mr. FishMR. FISH’S CATCH OF THE DAYDecember 4, 2025The Independent Ink

Your MR. FISH’S CATCH OF THE DAY for Tuesday, December 4, 2025, is an unreleased Beatles song that I’ve been listening to for 40 years. It’s called Watching Rainbows and was recorded in 1969 during the Let it Be sessions as an improvised Lennon throwaway. Remarkably, it was not included in Peter Jackson’s documentary miniseries, Get Back, nor was it included on any of the Anthology releases. Here are the lyrics, most likely invented by Lennon on the spot:
Standing in the garden waiting for the sun to shineWith my umbrella with its head I wish it was mineEverybody knows… Instead of watching rainbows I’m gonna make me someI said I’m watching rainbows I’m gonna make me someStanding in the garden waiting for the English sun to come and make me brown so I can be someoneLooking at the bench of next door neighborsCrying, I said c’mon, I said, save usEverybody’s got to have something hard to holdWell, instead of watching rainbows under the sunYou gotta get out son and make you oneYou gotta get out son and make your ownBecause you’re ain’t gonna make it if you don’tShoot meShoot meWhatever you do you gotta kill somebody to get what you wanna getYou gotta shoot meYou gotta shoot mePlease shoot me
Even before the Now and Then single was released in 2023 and announced as the “last Beatles song,” I thought Rainbows should be stitched together with McCartney’s Pillow for Your Head and Harrison’s Mother Divine, both incomplete compositions from the same time period, and released as a B-side medley to a re-release of the medley that closed out Abby Road. The connecting tissue for Divine Rainbow Pillow could be composed by the two surviving members of the band, of course. In other words, now that we’ve all heard Now and Then and had our hearts broken by its mediocre production and flabby, uninspired demeanor, I can’t be alone in wishing there was a better swan song for the group! (Additionally, I have no fewer than 10 solo Lennon tracks that he recorded in the late 70s that all would’ve been better to riff off of for a “last” Beatles song—anything other than Now and Then, but I’ll save those for a later post - ha!)
Here are the tracks. Dig it.
