As part of our “Holding the Line” virtual event series, we are bringing together Equality Now experts from Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America.

They’ll each share how global backlash against gender equality and women’s rights manifests in each region, what Equality Now and our partners are doing to combat it, what we can learn from these experiences, and the importance of feminist movements in holding the line for hard-won rights.

I will personally be moderating the discussion, and I will be joined by:

Bárbara Jiménez-Santiago, Regional Representative, Latin America and the Caribbean

Bárbara is a human rights lawyer with over ten years of experience advocating for access to justice, gender equality, and the elimination of discrimination and violence against girls and women in Puerto Rico and in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

Tamar Dekanosidze, Regional Representative, Eurasia

Tamar is a human rights lawyer who leads the development and implementation of Equality Now’s work to address violence and discrimination against women and girls in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Esther Waweru, Senior Legal Advisor, Legal Equality

Esther is a lawyer who has advocated for human rights and social justice, engaging with both international and regional human rights bodies, for over a decade.
