We’ve all seen it before. A driver speeding through a stop sign.
A dangerous driver flying down the block at high speed near a school or senior center.
Someone running a red light recklessly.
Later, we find out they’re doing it over and over again, sometimes racking up tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid tickets. They escape accountability while continuing to put kids and our neighbors at risk.
I was sick and tired of seeing this happen while we watched more and more DC residents get injured in crashes in our city each year. So I decided to do something about it.
I overhauled DC’s laws to hold dangerous drivers accountable, and for the first time ever, gave our Attorney General new powers to go after them in court, no matter which state they live in (and let’s be honest, it’s often Maryland and Virginia).
Since my STEER Act went into effect last year, DC has reversed the 10-year trend of increasing roadway injuries and deaths. It’s in part because we’re finally holding these drivers accountable for the danger they’re creating in our community.
This is the type of leadership I bring to our city and to your Council. Identify a problem, create a solution, and deliver results. If that’s the type of leadership you want representing Ward 6 and helping lead our city, then I’m asking for your support right now for my re-election campaign. I want to do even more to continue building the type of safe, walkable neighborhoods that everyone in DC deserves.
Our first fundraising deadline is just a few days away on Wednesday, December 10, and now is the time to chip in. Help us show the District how strong we are and that this is the type of vision and leadership our city needs: solving problems and delivering results that make a difference for all of us.
Please contribute by clicking here, and remember - every donation is matched 5-to-1, ensuring your contribution has a big impact.
I’m running again as a Fair Elections candidate, which means I won't accept donations more than $50, and donations from DC residents are matched $5 for every $1 donated. I never take donations from corporations or PACs.
