Tuesday was an incredible day in Tennessee, one that should give every progressive in America real, tangible hope.
In Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District — a district intentionally gerrymandered to be safely Republican, a district Trump won by 22 points, a district national Republicans poured millions into defending — Democrat Aftyn Behn came within single digits of winning in a Trump +22 seat.
Why?
Because voters, even in deep-red, heavily gerrymandered districts, are hearing our message loud and clear: The current administration is not improving people’s lives.
The only way to fix the crisis facing America’s middle class is to tackle the issues Washington keeps ignoring: affordability, healthcare, housing, wages, and the cost of simply being alive.
Aftyn Behn ran boldly on feeding kids, fixing roads, and funding hospitals.
Because she refused to run from her values, she overperformed in every corner of the district.
She turned a “safe” Republican seat into a battleground.
And that should terrify the GOP.
It's clear that our movement is breaking through, even in places designed to silence us.
But momentum isn’t enough. We must continue to organize to build a resilient movement. And we need grassroots supporters who refuse to accept the status quo to make it happen.
The 2026 midterms start now.
And if we want to flip seats like this, if we want to build a new majority that actually serves working people, we need everyone in this fight from day one.
