John,
Today I’m so happy and proud to tell you that a bipartisan piece of legislation I’ve been working on, the Count the Crimes to Cut Act, has passed the House unanimously.
This bill will both prevent overpunishment of our neighbors and communities, and also allow public safety professionals to fulfill their missions: protecting the public.
We still have a long way to go to ensure that our criminal code is up to date for the 21st century, and protects everyone equally, but I think this bill is a step in the right direction.
If you support updating our legal code to prevent overpolicing, I need you to sign on as a citizen cosponsor of this bill. We’re waiting for the Senate to vote on it, and if we get an outpouring of citizen support, it will force them to vote. [[link removed]]
