John, as climate change worsens, hotter and drier conditions make it easier for wildfires to start and turn into large, uncontrolled blazes.
I’ve watched a wildfire blaze five miles from my home in Montana. In moments like that, the difference between safety and tragedy comes down to seconds. Early detection makes a difference.
That’s why EDF served as an early science advisor to the development of FireSat, a satellite-based wildfire detection system. The goal is to provide better data for faster and more strategic responses to dangerous wildfires and for understanding the climate impacts from wildfire. We look forward to leveraging the data in fire management strategies for people and the environment.
Will you take part in EDF’s work protecting forests and our communities and wildlife who depend on them? Your gift will make four times the impact thanks to the 300% match extended by two longtime EDF donors. But don’t wait because this special match expires at midnight tomorrow, Dec. 4.

In addition to driving innovative solutions, EDF works with partners to cultivate healthy, thriving forests that are more resilient to wildfires, using tools like forest thinning and low-intensity fire where appropriate.
We’ve seen wildfire season growing longer, endangering people’s homes and livelihoods while threatening health as air quality reaches unhealthy levels. To protect lives, communities, and the places we love, we must build the capacity to prevent catastrophic wildfires.
Please donate now to help protect our forests, communities and wildlife with FOUR times the impact. You only have until midnight tomorrow to unlock your 300% matching funds.
Here’s to finding the ways that work,
