Dear John,
I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’m just disgusted.
On Thanksgiving, a day meant for gratitude and family, Donald Trump took to his social media platform to launch a vile attack against Governor Tim Walz, using an offensive slur targeting people with intellectual disabilities.
It was hateful. It was unpresidential. And it was a stark reminder of the character of the man currently sitting in the Oval Office.
Governor Walz, a former teacher who has spent his life in public service, responded with the grace and wit we’ve come to expect from him. But he shouldn't have to face these kinds of playground insults - and certainly not from the President of the United States.
Again, we cannot become numb to the indecency coming from the White House.
We have to stand up for our values. We have to stand up for leaders like Tim Walz who fight for us every day. And we have to build a Democratic Party that is strong enough to counter these attacks with truth, empathy, and action.
