We have bipartisan progress on banning the trade, John!
Republican representatives have been putting pressure on Speaker Mike Johnson and House GOP leaders to bring legislation to the floor to ban congressional stock trading. They joined Democrats who would be primary sponsors on the bipartisan bill.
Now, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has filed a discharge petition to force the issue. It’s official: Congress must confront this issue head-on, immediately!
Insider conversations on Capitol Hill indicate behind-the-scenes pushback from members who want to keep trading stocks while serving the people. However, proponents of the bill think those members would not be willing to say so publicly, because they know it would be unpopular with their constituents.
In short: if a bill makes it to the floor, our allies in the House are confident that we’ll win that front.
Ban The Trade is going to apply pressure until both the House and the Senate pass a ban on congressional stock trading. In the meantime, we’re endorsing anti-corruption candidates targeting the seats of the worst traders in Congress.
Help us get this bipartisan effort to ban congressional stock trading across the finish line with a contribution today:
This is as close as we’ve ever been to banning the trade. Together, we will win!
