For many of us, the end of the year is a time of reflection, gathering,
and celebration. For families caught in crisis in places like Sudan and
Gaza, it’s filled with suffering, fear, and dwindling hope for the future.

Sudanese families are facing killings, abductions, and severe hunger.
Palestinians in Gaza are enduring famine, attacks, and multiple
displacements from their homes.

Mercy Corps is on the ground responding to families’ urgent needs in both
regions. Our teams — fueled by Mercy Corps supporters like you – are
reaching people facing unimaginable circumstances to deliver vital aid to
help save lives.

Sudan

After more than 500 days under siege, Sudanese civilians are still facing
horrendous atrocities due to the violent war by armed groups. On October
30, nearly 500 people were killed at a local hospital — one of the few
remaining functioning health facilities after repeated shelling.

Now, the city of El-Fasher has fallen, and hundreds of thousands of
families are trying to flee while many are still trapped. A local
volunteer said, "What is happening in El Fasher today goes beyond tragedy
and threatens to turn the city into a silent graveyard for the hungry and
sick." Hostility continues after Sudanese leaders rejected a U.S.-led
ceasefire proposal. An immediate end to this war is desperately needed to
be able to surge aid into Sudan to meet the pressing needs.

Mercy Corps is scaling up our response. We’re pre-positioning emergency
teams, coordinating with partners, and expanding capacity to meet the
needs of displaced families. We’re also providing cash and voucher
assistance to displaced families, helping farmers increase food
production, and supporting local markets to keep essential goods moving.
But the need is still great.

Gaza

For a brief moment, Palestinian families experienced relief and hope after
fighting paused in Gaza — that feeling was short-lived.

Families lack basic necessities as much of the vital infrastructures and
basic services have collapsed. Famine continues to spread. More than 90%
of homes are destroyed or damaged. Families are torn apart, and children’s
lives are devastated. Yet vital humanitarian aid is still unable to get
through the border to reach those who need it most.

Mercy Corps teams are doing everything they can to meet the needs of
families in Gaza. We’re actively supplying clean water to families,
promoting hygiene, and rehabilitating basic water and sanitation systems.
We’re also prepositioning critical food kits, hygiene kits, and winterized
shelter kits in Jordan and Egypt. Mercy Corps has lifesaving assistance to
deliver to over 160,000 people as soon as aid corridors reopen. With the
arrival of winter, the need for basic supplies and shelter becomes even
more critical. More aid is needed.

This
Giving Tuesday, you can help deliver lifesaving aid to families enduring
unimaginable circumstances this season.
