Hi friends,

We made a lot of impact, together - we could not accomplish this important work without your support. We've been at work keeping our ever-growing, global community informed on the latest technical, legal, and landscape changes Big Tech and adtech are making to enrich themselves. These changes have come at the expense of news publishers, meaning information integrity is under attack. The Good News: we've made lots of progress towards creating a fairer digital advertising market— but we still have lots left to accomplish.

Our team has even bigger plans for 2026. We'll give you a sneak peek: we're expanding our strategy in Europe.

Why are we growing our engagement in Europe? Adtech and Big Tech's lobbying spend has increased in the EU by over 30% in less than two years. Democracy, information integrity, privacy, and a fair advertising market are all at stake on the global stage - and this is a power play unlike anything that's come before. Tech accountability is now a global game. With your help, we say, "game on!"

The push to make the internet fairer for advertisers, publishers, you, and me is growing. But we can’t do it alone. This Giving Tuesday, would you join us as a Checkmate?

Checkmates are part of our inner circle, the community who helps us drive real change with monthly contributions. And if you want to wear your support, check out our Check My Ads merch!

Here are some of the things our Checkmates made possible this year:

  1. 📑 We launched our first ever policy platform, the framework we are using to fix the digital advertising system at its core.
  2. 🗣️ We testified before many state and federal lawmakers in support of privacy laws that benefit both the public and businesses.
  3. 🌎 We spoke on global stages, sharing our roadmap for adtech reform and how we are driving that change.
  4. ⚖️  We continued our coverage of the US v Google Ads antitrust trial, serving as the primary source of truth for advertisers, marketers, journalists, consumers and policymakers.
  5. 🔎 We worked with policymakers to investigate the involvement of adtech in the monetization of websites that host Child Sexual Abuse Material, leading to various changes by adtech companies to give transparency and control to advertisers.

Not to mention, Arielle’s coverage of the Google trial won her an Adweek Innovator award! We are so proud to be a small yet mighty force for good.

We have big plans for 2026, and with a passionate Checkmate community made up of people like you, our impact can reach even further.

On to our next adventure!

Love,
