Dear friend,
I have been reading The Gift by Lewis Hyde. Highly recommended.
Right from the onset, the author shares fascinating stories to show how the dominant Western culture changed the meaning of the gift into a commodity. Today, every gift is a possession. In the Indigenous cosmovision, gifts are intended to be regifted, enlarging the reach of our shared humanity. The gift, according to Hyde, needs to be kept alive.
That resonates with our work at Grassroots International.
For the last 40+ years, along with our supporters and movement partners, we have moved more than $100 million dollars, plus an immeasurable amount of solidarity, to local communities worldwide.
This year, the generosity of our supporters like you - and our collective stewardship grounded in trust and a shared vision - has led to:
* 700+ leaders from 102 countries representing 300 million small-scale farmers, fisherfolk, pastoralists and other grassroots communities coming together to advance the food sovereignty movement [[link removed]]
* 600,000 Haitian peasants organizing to advance agroecology
* 1.3 million people receiving medical aid from our partners in Gaza since October 2023
These victories are gifts passed back to us in the form of hope and strength to enlarge the reach of our shared humanity.
On this Giving Tuesday, will you propel this momentum forward with a meaningful donation?

Our goal is to raise $3 million for global grassroots movements by December 31. As of this minute, we are almost 10% of the way to our goal. Help us to reach this goal by inviting friends and relatives to contribute to the work of Grassroots International and social movements. Together, we can keep the gift of international solidarity alive.
With gratitude,
