Dear FAMMily,
My name is Kendrick Fulton, Sr. After decades in prison, I am now free, and finally saying “Happy Holidays” feels amazing. When I was inside, holidays were rough. My sentence started in 2003, and every holiday, while my family gathered in Houston or Dallas, I would wake up early to stand in long lines for the phone. I'd pray we didn’t get cut off before I heard everyone’s voices. Those calls reminded me of everything I could not be there for.
In prison, I replayed holiday memories of me and my dad and imagined doing the same with my own kids—opening presents, putting new bikes together. My son, Kendrick, Jr., was only three when I left. |
