Today on Giving Tuesday, millions of people around the country are stepping up to unleash the power of individual giving. NCLEJ is a small nonprofit with limited resources, which means that meeting our fundraising goals consistently is mission critical to our continued success. If you have already donated in the last two weeks, I’d like to offer my warmest thanks on behalf of the NCLEJ team. If you have yet to donate, now is the time -- this is an all-hands-on-deck moment.
NCLEJ’s work to advance racial, economic, and disability justice could not be more urgent as we grapple with this unprecedented moment in the history of our nation. The Trump Administration is defying the rule of law and weaponizing the federal government against nonprofits, universities, law firms, and marginalized communities alike.
The recent SNAP crisis is an especially egregious reminder of the human cost to this administration’s cruelty. If you were angry that people were being denied food benefits during the government shutdown, you should still be angry because millions of working people around the country continue to face unlawful barriers to access. NCLEJ is a national leader in SNAP delay litigation, and we are fighting to fix America’s broken food benefits landscape with litigation in Alaska, Missouri, Georgia, New York, and more states to come.
But as you know, litigation requires serious commitment and funding over the long-term. Without additional resources, we are forced to turn down work where we could have made the difference.
The National Center for Law and Economic Justice advances racial and economic justice through ground-breaking impact litigation, policy advocacy, and support for grassroots organizing. We have provided legal representation and support since 1965.
