When we talk about impact, we’re really talking about people. People like Tina Payne — a lifelong Mississippian whose story shows exactly why your support matters so deeply.

Tina’s story shows the reality so many families are facing.

Tina spent decades operating machinery in a catfish processing plant in the Mississippi Delta. The work was grueling, and years of hard labor took a heavy toll on her body, leaving her disabled. When Tina applied for Medicaid, she expected the system she had paid into for years would be a safety net. Instead, she endured months of red tape only to receive a denial that left her in pain and without coverage. Tina deserved better — and we know you agree.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is working tirelessly to advocate for people like Tina, defending our most vulnerable communities through the courts, the halls of power and the classroom — paving the way for justice and liberation for all. Thank you for choosing compassion, and for showing up when it matters most. Andrea @ SPLC
