Dear John,
In the midst of the ongoing war in Ukraine, feminist activists and movements are providing essential support to people excluded by traditional humanitarian response. Women, elders, queer people, and people with disabilities are not only disproportionately impacted by conflict but also among the last whose distinct needs are seen and met. Recognizing this disparity, one of our grantee partners is providing timely assistance to older women with disabilities and survivors of sexualized violence who have been displaced due to the frontline shifting inland in Ukraine. In addition to supporting survivors of war by providing them with basic needs such as hygiene products, clothing, food, cooking and heating equipment like kettles and microwave ovens, the organization is a safe space for the community to come together and begin to heal. This is what feminist crisis response looks like. It’s not only timely but also deeply rooted in care and community.
Today is Giving Tuesday, a day to collectively give back to the movements, organizations, and activists building the world we envision. All across our regions, the feminist movements we work with inspire hope and remind us of the unbreakable spirit of humanity. Today, we ask you to channel your generosity in support of grassroots feminist activists, the hope they inspire, and solutions they champion every day.
Right now, people all over the world are joining together to make an impact. Thanks to the generosity of an early donor, the first $5,000 raised during our Giving Tuesday campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
