When I was in Texas recently, ranchers and restaurant owners told me the same thing: the meatpacking giants have a chokehold on America’s beef supply, and it’s driving up costs.
Four massive corporations control over 80 percent [[link removed]] of the beef industry in the United States.
* They decide what ranchers get paid.
* They set the prices that families pay at the grocery store.
* And everyone loses, except the corporate middlemen.
This isn’t a free market. It’s a rigged market. And it’s time for Congress to take action, crack down on centralized meatpacking, and support local and regional meatpackers.
