Email from Alaska Senate Majority Gearing Up for the Legislative Session! With Legislative Session beginning on January 20th, my team and I have been meeting with stakeholders to gather input, understand current challenges, and refine our legislative priorities. These conversations help ensure our goals reflect the needs of the people I serve. We’re also preparing to review the Governor’s budget when he submits it on December 15th and look forward to the work ahead during the Session. Legislative Budget & Audit Committee On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Legislative Budget & Audit Committee convened to continue its oversight responsibilities on behalf of Alaskans. During the meeting, the committee approved the release of two sunset audits conducted by the State Auditor. We also received a detailed presentation from Gaffney Cline, a global energy consultancy, on key considerations related to legislative and policy actions for the Alaska LNG project. In addition, the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC) provided an updated project briefing, followed by an update from Glenfarne Alaska LNG. The Work Continues On November 22nd, I had the honor of serving as a panelist on the Girl Scouts Glitter Gala democracy panel with fellow women colleagues in government, including Mayor Suzanne LaFrance, Representative Carolyn Hall, and School Board Member Kelly Lessens. The event was organized by one of my constituents, Emily Brubaker, who continues to inspire us every day. She played a key role with my staff in helping to advance legislation last session through Senate Joint Resolution 16: Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act, and remains a shining example of how impressive our young people truly are. On November 17th, I toured Steller Secondary School, and on November 21st, I toured Tudor Elementary School. Both were truly wonderful experiences. I spoke in depth with the principals about their programs and the challenges their communities are facing, and I visited a couple of classrooms to share more about my work in the Legislature and heard directly from students. On Saturday, November 15th, my colleagues - Representative Ted Eischeid, Representative Alyse Galvin and I presented an honorarium to the League of Women Voters of Anchorage in recognition of their hard work and unwavering dedication to empowering voters and protecting our democracy. On November 15th, I hosted a Coffee with Constituents at the SteamDot Coffee Benson Bar. It was a great turnout and an invaluable opportunity to speak with my constituents about the issues and concerns currently impacting them and their communities. On November 14th, I attended the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Career Pathways for Students Experiencing or at Risk of Experiencing Homelessness virtual work group. The session provided an overview of emerging trends in career pathways across multiple states, with speakers offering insight from the K–12 perspective and highlighting key access issues. They also discussed considerations for policymakers working to better support students experiencing homelessness. This remains a critical issue that no student should have to face. On November 12th, I attended the AI Legislative Online Convening on how AI is impacting children’s mental health and well-being. We discussed the rapid rise of AI chatbots, that are used by 72% of teens, and the concerns raised by the American Psychological Association about their effects on development. The convening was a valuable chance to examine risks and share legislative strategies. Interim is Almost Over!
