:
John,
The songs of the wild forest are rich and layered. The chirps of birds lilt above the soft rustle of leaves tossed in the breeze. Frollicking fox kits yip as their mother leads them along a babbling stream.
These vibrant melodies could soon be overwhelmed by the roaring of logging trucks and whirring of chainsaws.
The U.S. Forest Service is considering repealing protections for more than 45 million acres of wild forest.[1]
Congress has the opportunity to permanently protect these forests and the wildlife that call them home -- but we'll have to convince them to act.
We can't let logging drown out the song of the forest: Urge your U.S. House representative to support the Roadless Area Conservation Act today.

For almost 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected millions of acres of wild forest from road construction, logging and mining.[2]
These are the forests where more than 200 threatened and endangered species live, where ancient trees filter drinking water for millions of Americans and where the public can enjoy nature at its wildest.[3]
Right now, the Forest Service is attempting to eradicate protections for these special places. If the protections are repealed, logging trucks and mining equipment could mow down the trees that make these forests so spectacular.
Our wild forests are too precious to leave unprotected. It's time for Congress to pass the Roadless Area Conservation Act and enshrine the Roadless Rule into law, permanently safeguarding these special places.[4]
Speak up before logging silences our wild forests.

If these forests are opened to logging, we'd be losing so much more than trees.
We'd lose secluded river bends where families have fished for generations.
We'd lose the hoots of owls filtered through the branches of towering old-growth trees.
We'd lose evenings spent camping beneath starry skies where the cacophony of traffic is a distant memory.
Our wild forests shape our national character. They're a gift, meant to be preserved and passed on through generations of Americans. Let's make sure they're treated that way.
Tell your U.S. House representative: Our wild forests need permanent protection.

Together, we can help keep our wild forests singing for generations to come.
Thank you for speaking up for our forests,
Ellen Montgomery
