Today is Women’s Equality Day and Montana has a proud history of trailblazing women -- from the homesteaders who worked hard to make their way out West and raise their families, to Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress.

One thing is clear: Montana women have overcome obstacles and made history.

That’s why I’m continuing the fight for all women here in Big Sky Country and across the nation. We’ve come far since some women were given the right to vote 100 years ago, but there are still are major hurdles that we face every single day.

On average, white women only make 79 cents for every dollar a man makes -- and that number is even lower for Black, Indigenous and Hispanic women. On top of that, workplace discrimination is still a common occurrence for many hard-working women.

It’s unacceptable, and Congress needs to act. Women deserve respect and equality. They deserve workplaces and homes free from discrimination or violence. That’s a future I’ll proudly keep fighting for.
