Dear John,

As we head into December and settle into the colder months, it's a time to gather, learn, and stay connected to the stories and solutions that keep us moving forward. This month's Lunch & Learn series bring together creativity, curiosity, and policy insight to help us reflect on the moment we're in and prepare for the work ahead.

Friday, December 5, 12-1 PM: A Guide to Winter Birding

Winter in Maine brings a world of feathered surprises, from chickadees and finches that brighten snowy landscapes to rare visitors that arrive only in the cold months. Join Nick Lund, Advocacy & Outreach Manager for Maine Audubon, avid birder, nature writer, and creator of The Birdist blog, as he shares tips for spotting, identifying, and understanding winter birds. Whether you’re new to birding or a seasoned observer, you’ll leave ready to explore Maine’s winter wildlife and see the season in a whole new way.

Friday, December 12, 12-1 PM: Seeing for Ourselves: Visual Storytelling & Climate Change

Seeing for Ourselves is a nonpartisan nonprofit that empowers marginalized individuals to document their lives through participatory photography, giving them control over their public narrative. Join Jonathan Fisher, Executive Director of Seeing for Ourselves, and a student participant as they bring the Picturing My Climate Future project to life. You’ll see how photography helps participants explore the impacts of climate change in their communities and imagine solutions, while sharing their stories through exhibits, books, film, and social media. This Lunch & Learn is a rare chance to hear directly from those using visual storytelling to inspire action and reshape how we see climate change.

This next year is pivotal. If we act with urgency, we can protect what makes this state so precious. Your year-end gift will define the kind of Maine we leave for the next generation. From now until December 31st, your gift to MCV will be triple matched—up to $15,000! That means your gift today goes three times as far to protect the environment in Maine and our democracy. And when you become a monthly donor, your commitment will have 12x the impact, helping sustain this work all year long. But only before December 31st.

Together, we will keep Maine moving forward.
