Dear Friend,

As you likely have heard by now, at a holiday party in Kitchener this week, Elizabeth shared that I'll be joining Rainbow Eyes as a Deputy Leader.

It's not a decision I took lightly, and it's one that I'm really excited about.

We all know things aren't fair in Canada right now. We've got a small handful of grocery chains that have colluded on prices in the past, and find any number of reasons to spin why they continue to gouge us. Meanwhile, most of them are owned by the same billionaires who collectively have hoarded more wealth than the bottom 5.3 million Canadian households, combined.

All this while in communities like mine, working class folks - be it teachers, nurses or tradespeople - are increasingly at risk of having to move elsewhere as the cost of living skyrockets.

As Greens, we have solutions. It's past time billionaires pay their fair share, and rather than wasting energy and money on new pipelines that worsen the climate crisis, we can end the tens of billions in taxpayer funded handouts for foreign owned fossil fuel giants, and instead get on with investing in our communities priorities: like expanded, free transit; like building public, social housing at a scale that meets the crisis we're in; like truly universal healthcare that includes prescription drugs and mental healthcare, like ending legislated poverty for folks with disabilities, and like taking the climate crisis seriously by investing in a clean east-west electricity grid.

As a Deputy Leader with our party, I'm looking forward to having more opportunities to advocate and build momentum for these solutions on the national stage, while continuing to build our grassroots campaign in Kitchener Centre.

And I know many of you are working with your EDAs across the country in the same way - thanking supporters, hosting AGMs, showing up to support folks in our communities, and even getting back to door knocking and phone calls to connect with our neighbours.

We need the federal party to be staffed up and ready alongside us, in a position to support electing more Greens to Parliament again.

While our Federal Council prepares for an upcoming leadership race, one critical way we can all help is with our financial support.
