Rebekah Massie regularly attended every city council meeting in
Surprise, AZ. Her initial reason for attending:
“It started out as getting sick of my kids being late to school and
concern about the safety of my husband commuting to work, so I went to
go complain about the roads and try to work with the government.”
When Rebekah Massie saw her city council considering a pay raise for
the city attorney, Robert Wingo, something didn’t feel right.
She went up to the podium to lay out the reasons why she opposed his
raise.
Suddenly, Officer Shernicoff grabbed her and dragged her from the room
at the request of Mayor Skip Hall.
Rebekah was arrested in front of her daughter for daring to speak her
mind.
