Speaker johnson confrontation
|
|
Earlier this month, I attended Speaker Johnson's press conference and asked him why he hadn't brought both parties together to end the shutdown – you may have seen the videos.
This was the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, at 43 days. During this time, I spent every day working with my Democratic colleagues in Washington to protect health care for Americans. Republicans cannot say the same.
They refused to meet with us, which is why I had to bring our concerns to Speaker Johnson right on the Capitol steps, urging him to bring both parties' leaders together.
I will always show up for our communities, especially when this administration continues to harm our families, friends, and neighbors.

Earlier this month, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement from Congress. The first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, she has spent her entire career fighting for the American people and has led House Democrats through some of the most important battles, including passing the Affordable Care Act and holding Donald Trump accountable.
Thank you, Madam Speaker, for an extraordinary 38 years of service. We wish you the best in this next chapter.

Across the nation, we watched as Democrats delivered historic victories up and down the ballot – and Pennsylvania was no exception. We retained all three state Supreme Court justices, elected the first Democratic district attorney in Bucks County, and elected a Democratic county executive in Erie County.
Congratulations to all on these incredible victories. I cannot wait to see the great things they'll do for hardworking Pennsylvanians.
