John,
Today is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and I want to speak plainly about what that means, and why it matters.
The Palestinian people have endured bombs, siege, starvation, and the intentional destruction of their land and culture.
Already, Israel has violated the newest ceasefire. At least 67 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire.
What Netanyahu’s military is doing is wrong on every moral level. And it continues only because leaders in our own government, Democrats and Republicans alike, keep sending weapons and political cover.
AIPAC has spent years financing politicians who refuse to speak up. They have been among Jimmy Gomez’s top funders for a decade. Last year alone, they poured more than half a million dollars into defeating a challenger in this race. And when House Democrats called for a ceasefire, or for formula to be sent to starving infants in Gaza, Jimmy refused to sign on.
This is not leadership. Bending to the will of AIPAC when a genocide is unfolding is indefensible.
Our campaign is, and always will be, pro-Palestine, pro-peace, and pro-human rights. I will never stay silent in the face of injustice or sell out my community to lobbyists and war profiteers.
And I say this as a Chicana who understands that our liberation is bound together. The futures of our Latinidad gente, of Black liberation, and of a free Palestine are interconnected. As long as one of us is oppressed, we all are not free.
Free Palestine — today, tomorrow, forever.
