Hi friend,
When I was Mayor of South Bend, I learned lessons in democracy that I’ve carried with me ever since: Local government is a daily experience in accountability and immediacy, a realm where leaders are accessible and people make sure that they are heard.
If there’s a pothole in your neighborhood, you’re going to hear about it – at the coffee shop, at a town hall, even when you’re just trying to pick up a gallon of milk. You never lose sight of the reasons why governments and political systems exist: to solve problems in everyday life.
We need more of that.
It’s why I bring the same mindset to the nationwide work I do now: visiting communities across the country, hearing directly from people about what they’re facing, and supporting leaders who stay focused on solving problems rather than scoring points. It’s politics rooted in our shared humanity and the importance of taking care of the basics.
The reality is that this kind of work only moves because supporters like you make it possible.
If you’re able, I’d be grateful if you’d chip in $10, $25, or whatever feels right today. It helps bring more of that local, grounded leadership – real listening, real accountability, real problem-solving – into our national politics.
