We say it all the time, because it’s true, John: It doesn’t have to be like this.
Since the year 2000, more than 800,000 people have been killed by guns in the United States, and another 2 million people have been injured.
The scale of gun violence in our country is unimaginable – gun violence is now the leading cause of death among children and teens.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. And now, a group of leading experts are offering real hope, and a path forward.
60 experts from fields including medicine, tech, criminology, and public health and even the firearms industry, have come together to produce a landmark report: Toward a Safer World by 2040. They outline real, tangible steps that communities and lawmakers can take, with a view to dramatically reducing gun violence.
Imagine school shootings being a thing of the past. Imagine students not suffering through regular lockdown drills. Imagine our communities free from the nightmare of gun violence.
That future is possible, but building it won’t be easy. It’ll take all of us: young people, politicians, scientists, researchers, and community leaders working together. And there’s no time to lose.
Thank you,
The March for Our Lives team
