John,
Trump just can’t help himself. He can’t stop lying. He’s certainly never been known for his integrity or his commitment to the truth, but it’s getting more outrageous by the day.
Here are just ten of his most recent lies from a single interview. But if you want to spare yourself the trouble of reading on, then I’ll cut right to the chase: I’m asking for $10 to help me hold him accountable for these lies.
- Cost of living: He said that grocery prices are going down. If he spent less time in his Golden Great Gatsby ballroom and more time in a grocery store, he would know that prices are going up.
- Inflation: Trump said Biden gave him the worst inflation rate in all of US history. Nope. It was 3% in January when Trump took over, and it’s 3% today. If you're curious what the worst inflation rate was: 27% in 1920.
-
Tariffs: Trump said countries like China are paying tariffs. In fact, the costs of tariffs are paid by the U.S. importers and passed on to you, the consumer.
-
AI and energy costs: Trump said he came up with the brilliant idea of co-locating an artificial intelligence data center and power plant to "make their own energy." Once again, nope. This is Donald Trump's equivalent of saying that he invented the internet.
-
Fentanyl: Trump said that every attack on a fishing boat in the Caribbean effectively saves 25,000 American lives. That's just absurd. The area is not a fentanyl trafficking route. And if you add up all of the loss of lives from all of the sources of drug overdoses, it would amount to about 80 or 90,000 deaths, which is horrible, but nothing near the scale that Trump has claimed every non-fentanyl carrying boat has caused.
-
Wars: Trump said, again, that he has ended eight wars. Some of his examples were Egypt and Ethiopia — which weren’t even at war — and Kosovo, which didn’t even take place during his tenure in office.
-
Ukraine: Trump claimed Joe Biden provided $350 billion to Ukraine. I mean, even if you got your degree from Trump University, the numbers don't add up. In fact, the U.S. has spent about less than half of that sum in Ukraine.
-
Democrats and the shutdown: Trump said Democrats were seeking $1.5 trillion to end the government shutdown. Completely bogus. What we were seeking was to bring down the skyrocketing costs of health care for Americans.
-
The Insurrection Act: Trump threatened again to use the Insurrection Act to take over American cities, and said it was used by other presidents as many as 28 times. That's just false. No president has invoked the Act more than Ulysses S. Grant in the early 1800s, and he did so six times.
-
Using the DOJ as a weapon: Trump said he did not instruct the Department of Justice to go after his political enemies. We know of course that he publicly called on Pam Bondi to go after three of his enemies, including me.
These are just ten of his top lies in one interview. If you can, pitch in $10 to help me continue calling them out.
