A Message from Brendan DeMelle
Alongside the diplomats, activists, and Indigenous groups who attended the recent United Nations COP30 climate summit, polluting industries and consulting firms sent hundreds of delegates — just not always in plain sight.
Thanks to readers like you, we’ve sent a team of journalists to most of the UN climate summits since 2005 to call out corporate polluters and deniers as they try to spread disinformation and greenwash. We called them out then and we called them out now.
This month we had DeSmog’s Hazel Healy, Clare Carlile, and TJ Jordan tracking corporate influence on the ground at the COP30 talks in Brazil.

Our reporting uncovered how a variety of powerful corporate interests flocked to a summit which Brazil’s President declared ambitiously as the “COP of truth,” but which ended with a diluted deal far from what climate science calls for.
In an exclusive, we revealed how Edelman, the official PR firm for the summit, lobbied the Brazilian hosts of COP30 to choose one of its oil and gas clients to help power the conference. We uncovered the fossil fuel representatives among Canada’s national delegation. And we showed that the software firm sponsoring the UK’s official pavilion has hundreds of oil and gas clients.
We did it all on a shoestring budget.

In addition, we published several new meticulously researched profiles in our vital research databases — profiles like the ad company Next 15 Group, which has clients including Shell and British Gas.
