As has been the case for over 200 years, the Electoral College determines the outcome of U.S. presidential races. Yet most Americans have long supported moving away from this system.

More than six-in-ten Americans (63%) would instead prefer to see the winner of the presidential election be the person who wins the most votes nationally. Roughly a third (35%) favor retaining the Electoral College system, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 9,720 adults conducted last fall.

We're clearly all tired of a system where all our candidates and their campaigns care about is whether the margin of victory is close enough in the state to make it worthwhile to campaign there instead of speaking to real Americans with real challenges.
