Happy Thanksgiving from the DGA team! We wrote this special edition of The Blue Book to share the latest Dem govs news before the holiday.
We’re proud of our Democratic governors for making amazing progress on the issues we care about and standing up to Donald Trump.
But before we begin, if you’re grateful for Dem govs too, will you chip in $3, or anything you can spare, to elect more Dem govs? We have thirty-six governors’ elections on the ballot next year, and grassroots support will be vital to winning in key races.
Here’s what we’re thankful for:
- Historic, huge wins in the Virginia and New Jersey governors’ races! We’re so excited for Governors-elect Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill to officially join the ranks of our Dem govs.
- Leaders who are expanding voting rights, not restricting them. When Donald Trump issued an extreme executive order that curtailed voting rights earlier this year, we at the Democratic Governors Association sued – and last month, a judge ruled in our favor against a key part of it!
- Governors who follow public health guidance from scientists, not conspiracy theorists. While Donald Trump and RFK Jr. turn their backs on public health, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, and Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers have all taken steps to ensure vaccine access and protect public health in their states through executive action, interstate collaboration, funding, and more.
- Protections for reproductive rights at the state level after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Democratic governors in 22 states formed the Reproductive Freedom Alliance last year, a coalition committed to using executive actions, budgets, legislation, appointments, and regulations to strengthen reproductive rights in their states.
- Dem govs who are fighting to make health care more affordable, while Trump and Republicans in Washington are skyrocketing premiums by double or triple and kicking millions off their coverage. North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy have erased billions of dollars of medical debt in their states. Numerous governors, like Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, are expanding Medicaid in their states. And from California Gov. Gavin Newsom signing a law to lower prescription drug costs to Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly fighting for rural hospital funding, Dem govs across the country are committed to protecting our care.
- Governors who are banning hunger in schools with free school meals: Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
- As we enter the holiday season, we’re glad to stand with all 23 Democratic governors who sued the Trump administration earlier this month for refusing to fund SNAP benefits and put food on the table for folks in need during the GOP’s government shutdown. They’re fighting for working families, while Republicans are fighting for billionaires.
And of course, we’re thankful for grassroots supporters like you!
If you’re grateful for the incredible work our Dem govs are doing and want to help elect more of them across the country, will you make a gift of $3 today?
