John, As we gather around the table today, I want to wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. This season can be complicated. Politics has gotten so loud, so bitter, and so personal that it’s worked its way into our families and our friendships. We’ve all felt it. So this year, I want to ask you to do something a little different.
Don’t fight. Don’t debate. Don’t take the bait. Not because these issues don’t matter—they do. But because the people we’ll be sitting with matter more. |
Today let’s give ourselves permission to put the arguments down. Let’s be present. Enjoy the food. Laugh.
And remember that before we’re Democrats or Republicans, we’re family.
That’s what I’ll be doing. Spending the day with my wife, my little man, my new niece and nephew, and a family I love a whole lot around some delicious food.
We’ll get back to the fight soon enough. But this Thanksgiving and for the holidays ahead, I hope you’ll join me in choosing peace, choosing grace, and choosing each other. From my family to yours — Happy Thanksgiving! — Richard |
