Happy Thanksgiving!
THIS DAY IN HISTORY
America’s Day of Gratitude to God
As Thanksgiving approaches, let’s pause to remember the deep spiritual roots of this cherished American holiday.
The Pilgrims’ 1621 harvest feast<[link removed]> in Plymouth wasn’t just a meal—it was a heartfelt act of gratitude to God for survival after a brutal winter where they lost half their numbers.

Joined by their Native neighbors, the Pilgrims celebrated for three days with games and food. Thus, they set a precedent for a nation that would repeatedly turn to Providence in times of both trial and triumph.
Our Founding Fathers continued this tradition. George Washington issued the first presidential Thanksgiving proclamation<[link removed]> in 1789, urging Americans to thank “that great and glorious Being” for the blessings of independence and civil government.

Later presidents, from John Adams to Lincoln, periodically called for national days of thanksgiving amid war and hardship—reminders that gratitude strengthens resolve.
In 1863, with the nation divided in the midst of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln's proclamation began a permanent tradition of Thanksgiving as an annual holiday.

Just months after Gettysburg, he urged citizens to give thanks<[link removed]> for victories, bountiful harvests, and “the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.” His words helped heal wounds and unite a fractured people in praise.
Today, as we gather with family, let’s reclaim Thanksgiving’s original purpose: acknowledging God’s hand in our lives.

From all of us at WallBuilders, may your Thanksgiving be filled with faith, family, and gratitude.
