Dear John,
On this day of thanks , we extend our sincerest gratitude to you , our members and supporters, for being part of the movement for climate action and environmental protection in Maine. It is the connections we have with you, as well as the natural world, that are at the heart of our work.
As we give thanks, we also think of our friends and neighbors – the sovereign people of the Mi’kmaq Nation, Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Passamaquoddy Tribe, and Penobscot Nation, as well as the Abenaki and other Indigenous peoples – who have lived here for millennia and are still here.
Thanks to the work of groups like the Wabanaki Alliance [[link removed]] , more people across the state understand the importance of Wabanaki sovereignty , so that the tribes in Maine have the same rights and powers as all other federally recognized tribes. Many of the leading gubernatorial candidates, as well as state lawmakers across the political spectrum, have voiced their support for advancing tribal sovereignty.
To keep this important work moving forward, consider supporting the Wabanaki Alliance as they advocate for policies that improve the lives of tribal citizens and their neighbors around the state. You can learn more here. [[link removed]]
With gratitude and best wishes for a joyful holiday season from all of us here at MCV,
Chloe, Gabe, Kate, Keith, Maggie, Maureen, Nick, Peter, Rani, Sarah, and Stacie
