Dear friend of IDP,

This past Monday, Mayor-elect Mamdani announced ([link removed]) 17 transition committees to provide policy and personnel recommendations for his incoming administration. I have been named to the immigrant justice committee ([link removed]) together with so many critical partners in this work. A number of IDP’s trusted partners have also been appointed to committees focused on community organizing, community safety, the criminal legal system and more areas of importance to New Yorkers. I am eager to work alongside all these fellow committee members on issues that are intrinsically linked to our mission.

Prior to November’s election, IDP–with our fellow partners in the ICE Out! NYC Coalition –had prepared urgent policy recommendations for the following administration. These recommendations are in line with the mission we’ve held since 1996: Offer real solutions to protect New Yorkers’ due process rights, strengthen sanctuary laws and policies, and create a city that is safe and welcoming for all. We welcome the opportunity to advocate for these policies as part of the transition committee and beyond.

This is a new chapter for NYC. But given the moment we are in, we must be resolute in the determination that the changes we need are not simple nor can they be achieved by one person or one organization alone. To best pursue the mission of the Immigrant Defense Project, we must strengthen our relationships and collaborations with others in New York and across the country, including with you–our supporters.

We are thrilled to share that thanks to your support, we have raised $50,000 and unlocked the commitment of $50,000 in matching funds - a generous gift from a small group of dedicated supporters, IDP Champions 2026. But we can’t stop now. We now aim to raise another $50,000 by the end of the calendar year.

We need to build off of the energy we have had from the very beginning of 2025, when we marched in Albany on the first day of the legislative session to demand action for New York immigrant communities:

Linda Flor, IDP’s Senior Policy and Campaigns Organizer leads the crowd in Albany to demand passage of the New York for All Act!

As we look to 2026, we are committed to seizing the opportunity this moment offers and bringing that same energy to City Hall and beyond.

Thank you for keeping us going,

Yasmine Farhang
