Dear Neighbors,

At this time of the year, I like to take a moment to reflect on all that has happened in our state and country. I give thanks for the positive and roll up my sleeves to do the work our community asks of me. Even though the temperatures are expected to plummet, if you have a chance to get outside, all state parks and trails have free entry this Friday, November 28.

Like the old adage goes, “there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” Now is a good time to be in nature; check out the state map of parks and trails here. [ [link removed] ]

*No Child Left Inside Grant Applications Open*

Studies show that today's young people have less contact with the natural world than previous generations, which is why I was glad to support the bipartisan “No Child Left Inside” grant program GOP and DFL lawmakers created in 2019. Encouraging children and teens to spend more time outside is essential for ensuring the long-term care and protection of Minnesota's environment. These grants can be used for educational trips to the Boundary Waters, learning opportunities at nature centers, angling in our local lakes, and more. Applications are being accepted until December 16; learn how to apply here [ [link removed] ].

*Cold Weather Rule*

I want to remind you of the resources available to ensure that all Minnesotans stay warm and are protected from utility service shut-offs.

Minnesota’s Cold Weather Rule [ [link removed] ] is in effect from October 1 to April 30, protecting residential utility customers from having their electric or natural gas service shut off. To protect your service from disconnection, you must make and keep a reasonable payment plan that you and your utility agree on. You can set up a payment plan any time during the rule season.

Call your natural gas, electric, municipal utility, or electric cooperative for more information, or contact the Commission’s Consumer Affairs Office at [email protected] or call 651-296-0406, 1-800-657-3782.

*House Bonding Committee Visits Plymouth*

I was glad to once again welcome the House Capital Investment Committee to Plymouth earlier this month. With many local infrastructure improvement projects, historically, we’ve been fortunate to have federal financial support to get these projects across the finish line; it helps keep costs down for Plymouth taxpayers, while maintaining quality infrastructure. This year, the City is seeking state assistance to develop better accessibility for our neighbors and folks across the state heading to the Plymouth City Center. So far, we have heard nothing yet about whether or not the federal government will contribute to this project. You can learn more about it here [ [link removed] ].
