Friend,

Time in nature has never been more vital. Getting outdoors can lift our spirits, reduce stress, strengthen our immune systems, and deepen our connections with the people we care about. When we make space for nature, we make space for healing.

But the Trump administration has weaponized the government to sever our connections to the outdoors. From the forced firings of our park stewards, to efforts to sell off public lands to the highest bidder, to inhumane immigration enforcement tactics scaring families indoors, our connection to nature and public lands has never faced a greater threat. The longest government shutdown in history put additional strain on our parks, public lands, and the government employees who protect them for current and future generations.

This Black Friday, we have an opportunity to reclaim that connection. Instead of spending the day in crowded stores, we invite you to #OptOutside with us -- whether that means taking a quiet walk, exploring a local park, or enjoying fresh air with people you love.

We'd love to see photos of you enjoying nature this weekend! If you'd like, use our social media toolkit to share your photos, stories, and memories of time outside (and tag your friends to ask them to join the movement). Let's make this holiday season one of gratitude for the lands that give us adventure, learning, and peace.

So grab your loved ones, take a deep breath of fresh air, and reconnect with the outdoors with the Sierra Club community.

With Gratitude,
