Shontel Brown for Congress

We are days away from Thanksgiving, which, under the Trump regime, has become a more and more contentious time if you have to share a meal with a MAGA-supporting family member.

If politics can’t be forgone, we wanted to share some talking points to keep the conversation focused on the truth of what is happening in our country:

On political violence: Last week, Trump accused Democratic lawmakers of “seditious behavior,” calling for their arrest and, ultimately, their death for stating that active service members can refuse illegal orders. This isn’t hyperbole, as reported by the Washington Post, he posted on Truth Social: “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!”

On healthcare: Republicans are running out of time to ensure that healthcare premiums don’t skyrocket for millions of people. If ACA Enhanced Premium tax credits expire, ACA marketplace premiums will increase by an average of $705 per year for individuals, with some families seeing costs in the thousands. This also comes after Republicans earlier in the summer passed a Budget Bill that included over $1 trillion in health care cuts, including the largest-ever cut to Medicaid.

On cost of living: Thanks to Trump’s tariffs, prices are rising across the board. According to Reuters, U.S. consumer prices were up 3% in the 12 months through September, while the job market continues to weaken. Between blocking food assistance and feverishly prioritizing corporate interests over the well-being of hardworking Americans, Trump is pushing our economy towards a recession.

On Trump’s Ballroom: While the lives of people across the nation continue to get more difficult, Trump is focusing his efforts on throwing temper tantrums over the Epstein files and building a $300 million ballroom. Trump is paying for these renovations through “donations” from crypto billionaires, sports teams, media companies, and other special interest groups – aka the very people he is prioritizing over the People.

John, Trump and his cronies in Congress have clearly been too busy serving their wealthy friends instead of tackling our growing health care crisis, making sure everyone has food on the table, or lowering the cost of living. It’s time to hold them accountable: Before you log off for Thanksgiving, will you chip in $5 today to help Democrats take back the House?

Together,

Team Brown
