Filing for Precinct Chair and State Convention Delegate is coming up soon. Running for one (or both!) of these offices is a great way to get involved for the first time in the Democratic Party.
Precinct Chairs (PCs) are critical to our party’s success: they elect county party leadership, fill vacancies when a Democratic elected official cannot complete their term, and are the most local representative of the party in their community.
State Convention Delegates will attend the party’s state convention on Saturday, June 6, 2026 and nominate the Democratic candidate for several statewide offices including Comptroller, Secretary of State, and Treasurer. Check out the state party’s next virtual training to learn more.
You can file when the filing period opens on January 7th. Filing closes at noon on February 6th. There are a few things to keep in mind:
File a CAN-37 with your County Clerk. You must complete a CAN-37 - Declaration of Candidacy for Precinct Committeeman or State Convention Delegate in 2026 form. If you are running for both PC and Delegate, you must file a separate copy of this form for each office.
You must vote in Democratic primaries. Your most recent primary vote must have been in the Democratic primary, or you must get your County Chair’s signoff to run.
Your name will be on the 2026 primary ballot. If you win in the May 5, 2026 primary, congrats!
We’d love to see more Young Democrats represented in our party, so don’t miss this chance to engage!
