Zenith: Legal Victory + (More) City of Portland Controversy

Our Portland community won a major legal victory when the Oregon Court of Appeals ruled in favor of community groups, determining that Zenith’s land-use approval must be reviewed by the Land Use Board of Appeals. This was a judicial rejection of attempts by the City and Zenith to avoid public scrutiny.

At the same time, the City’s much-promised “independent” investigation into Zenith’s franchise violations still lacks real transparency.

Activists for Palestine are Winning in Court

This year we’ve seen a series of powerful legal wins for Palestinian rights advocates who’ve been silenced, smeared, and sued. The Protect the Protest coalition, for which Breach helps lead communications, has published a story on a series of cases where judges have affirmed that speaking out for Palestinian freedom is not a crime ([link removed]) , it’s a right protected by the first amendment.

Radical Hospitality Meets Climate Justice

Up next in our Climate Justice Plan series, we highlight how radical hospitality shaped Multnomah County’s Climate Justice Plan from the inside out. Desiree Eden Ocampo of Rahab’s Sisters brought a commitment to radical hospitality that helped push the CJP toward a truly community-centered vision of climate justice. Her perspective shows why frontline leadership matters and why organizations like Breach fight to keep these voices at the center.
