After months of pressure, Republicans finally caved and reversed the $500+ billion cut to Medicare that they had snuck into their Big, Beautiful-for-Billionaires Law. This half-trillion-dollar attack on seniors' health care would have done real harm over the coming years.
I'm asking you to chip in today so we can keep up the fight to protect health care for Rhode Island families.
Here's what happened: When Republicans jammed through their tax giveaway to billionaires and big corporations over the summer, they exploded the national debt to the point that it would trigger the “sequestration” law — triggering massive automatic cuts to Medicare. Like they didn’t know that.
We put a big, bright spotlight on their sneaky scheme. The pressure ultimately worked—Republicans were forced to undo their own Medicare cuts.
Stopping this back-door cut is a win. But make no mistake, the health care fight is far from over.
Republicans are still coming after Medicaid. Insurance premiums are still rising because of the anti-health care party.
