This week Rachel Reeves will be announcing what’s in the UK budget. She’s facing some tough choices, but we want to make sure she prioritises supporting the 10 million people who are living under the huge pressure of unpayable debts.
The cost of living crisis is still hitting families hard. Unemployment is spiking, and personal insolvencies and bankruptcies are on the rise. People are simply not earning enough to cover the essentials – and being forced into debt because of it.

With council tax debt and energy bills going through the roof, this is such a critical time to push for more to be done to help bring down bills and get people out of debt. That’s why we paid a visit to Westminster last week to call on the government to act.
One of the fastest growing types of debt in the UK is council tax debt. Our analysis found that outstanding council tax debt has soared to £8.3 billion, an increase of 300% since 2014. Energy debt is predicted to grow to £5 billion this year, more than doubling in just three years. People simply can’t keep up with rising costs.
Families should be supported to get out of debt, not punished by bailiff visits or extra fees.
This Wednesday, the government faces some clear choices, and we want to make sure that they make the right decisions. You can add your voice to the campaign by emailing your MP today.
