John,

Trump said that Democratic lawmakers who reminded military service members they were obligated to refuse illegal orders engaged in “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

He has openly called for political violence against members of the Democratic Party. When he says 'jump,' his supporters say 'how high?' This is terrifying and criminal behavior by the leader of our country.

John, we cannot let comments like this get the usual Trump treatment – being pushed under the rug with some excuse of this being a “joke.”

Political violence is not a laughing matter. According to the Washington Post, the U.S. military adheres to the Uniform Code of Military Justice – military service members take an oath to the Constitution, not to the president. If they are being asked to follow “manifestly unlawful orders,” they can refuse. THAT is the law.

He doesn’t care about the law. He doesn’t care about violence. He only cares about power, his ballroom, and money.

I absolutely condemn this act of political violence. We cannot let the Republicans remain in power as they excuse behavior like this.

I stand firm with my Democratic colleagues,

Shontel Brown
