Hi John,

Didn’t catch our latest webinar, “Trump is Anti-Abortion: His Second Term Agenda”? No problem! You can still watch our discussion on the Trump Administration’s recent anti-abortion, anti-science policies and statements. The Trump Administration has caved to the demands of the anti-abortion movement, from pardoning anti-abortion extremists to defunding Planned Parenthood. Let’s be clear: Trump wants to implement a back-door abortion ban. Together, we can fight back against the Administration’s dangerous rhetoric to protect abortion care in our communities.

Harness Your Power: Resisting Pronatalist Rhetoric

Recently, the Trump Administration has uplifted pronatalist rhetoric by pushing “restorative reproductive medicine” to promote family growth – which strategically undermines access to both IVF and abortion. Trump’s moves have mirrored much of the sentiment of the anti-abortion movement, claiming that lower birth rates are leading to America’s decline. In truth, the Trump Administration wants to push unproven fertility treatments, with a wink and a nudge that increasing birthrates would largely benefit white, wealthy families. Last month, we published a blog post discussing the harms of the pronatalist movement and Trump’s “pro-family” facade. It's imperative that we have the tools to identify and resist pronatalism, which is inherently anti-science and founded upon white Chistian nationalism. In doing so, we can fight back against dangerous narratives that ultimately seek to restrict access to and propagate misinformation on basic reproductive medicine.

Self-Care

Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.

Here are our self-care tips for November:

  1. Play with seasonal scents! I love a warm cinnamon, soothing vanilla, or fresh cranberries, oranges, or pines as the weather gets colder. Your favorite 'off-price' retailer will often have fall and winter soaps, lotions, and the like that make washing your hands and moisturizing less of a chore and instead something to look forward to. – Shireen, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff
  2. Fill the void! I recently quit using a few social media sites and while I love what it's done for my mental health, I was struggling to fill the time-void usually spent scrolling (not enough time to get into a book but too much time to do nothing!) I subscribed to a few magazines which has been perfect for that in-between space I used to fill scrolling. - Liz, Director of Development and Operations
  3. Try walking in a winter wonderland! The benefits of walking in cold weather cannot be understated. Walking outside in colder temperatures can improve your immune system, improve your mood, and improve cognitive function. The key to winter walking - or spending any time outside in the winter - is LAYERS. Start with a base layer to wick away any sweat, a layer to insulate the rest of your body and help you retain body heat, and an outer layer that helps protect against the environment. Make sure to protect your extremities, like your hands and feet, and don a scarf or a hat if you’re feeling extra chilly! Forty to forty-five percent of body heat is lost through the neck and head. So, get out there and face the cold, and then get back inside when you’ve had enough. – Nataley, Executive Assistant and Senior Operations Coordinator
