When people realize how powerful the Texas Attorney General really is, a lightbulb goes off – they start to understand just how much is at stake in this campaign. With a budget of more than a billion dollars, a massive staff, and wide discretion in deciding just what the office will do with its resources, the Texas AG really is the most powerful office you've never thought much about.
That's real power.
Like a governor, the Texas Attorney General belongs to the executive branch of government.
Ask yourself: *who are the top 3 Texas Republicans you can think of right off the top of your head?* I bet current **Texas AG Ken Paxton** is one of those three.
At the expense of the rest of us, Paxton has shown how influential that executive power can be. He is notorious – on a national scale — and has used the power of the office to earn his (bad) reputation.
Which leads me to the main point here: The Texas AG can be as powerfully good under the right leadership as it has been powerfully bad under Ken Paxton.
What's possible with a good AG? All we have to do is look to the example of Democratic attorneys general in other states.
In recent months, Democratic Attorneys General have:
- Successfully sued Trump to stop his overreach;
- Successfully sued to fund SNAP for millions of Americans;
- Successfully sued to stop landlords from price-fixing rents;
- Successfully sued to keep federal troops out of cities;
- Successfully sued energy companies to stop their monopolistic practices.
Things could be so much different, and so much better. This really is a matter of choices and trade-offs. Every time Paxton wastes our tax dollars and his staff's capacity in order to execute his petty and narrow partisan agenda, Texans lose out.
**Please, John, help me use the power of the Office of Texas Attorney General for good. [Things have to change, and you can help. Please pitch in what you can now to support our campaign.]([link removed]
