Follow-On Cancer Drugs Target Earlier Stages Than Initial Drugs: Implications Of The IRA

In an ahead-of-print article published this week, Tomas J. Philipson and coauthors explore how mandates from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) resulted in shortening the exclusivity period used to recoup research and development investments as well as support follow-on innovation.

 

The study shows that oncology follow-on approvals frequently shift to earlier disease stages, a trend that may be accelerated by IRA-induced incentives.
